I am getting ready to tie up some rigs and wondering how important it is to have a hook in the bottom of your bait. The rigs I have been doing have 3 hooks along the bait's back. All the kings I have caught have had the hook by the bait's head in it's mouth so my rig works good if the king is feeding, I am guessing if I had one in the bottom of the bait I might catch the ones that just swipe at the bait? Should I add a 4th hook or keep it at 3 and just extend the wire so the hook will reach the bottom of the bait?

I use a 3 hook rig I Use a Live Bait hook in the Head a number 6 treble in the back and make a longer stinger hook and place in the anal cavity....I have noticed since I started doing this my hook up to strike ratio is at about 95 % Just stated doing this last season in August and had six strikes 5 hook ups out of the 6 and landed 4 of the 6 only one I lost was cut off by a Boat and it was the largest of the year that I had strike estimated 40 plus pounds as he hit 3 other baits before inhaling mine.

Oh yeah I was there that day you got cut off by the boat. So you have your 3rd hook as the long one. Would it make a difference if the 2nd or the 3rd hook was the long one?

I always use the third but I am sure you can modify it to make I the second...
